Delta introduces upgraded business class on 777s

Delta Air Lines has revealed the upgraded seat map of its Boeing 777-200(ER)/(LR) fleet, featuring the new Delta One suites.

The airline revealed the concept for its Delta One business class last year and announced that the suites would first appear along with the all-new Premium Select class on its order of 25 Airbus A350-900 aircraft, before rolling out of its fleet of 777s.

RoutesOnline now reports that the first retrofitted 777-200 will go into service in July 2018 on the Detroit-Beijing route, with an additional route from Los Angeles-Sydney launching in March 2019.

The cabin

As on the A350, the Delta One suites will be arranged in a 1-2-1 configuration, with a recline of up to 81 inches and a width of 21 inches. Each suite will have a closing door and an 18-inch entertainment monitor, a Do Not Disturb light indicator, customisable individual ambient lighting settings, dedicated stowage spaces for personal belongings, memory foam cushions and universal power outlets and high-powered USB ports. Passengers should also expect the soft touches like Westin Heavenly In-Flight Bedding and TUMI amenity kits.

Premium Select seats will be laid out in a 2-4-2 pattern with 38 inches of pitch, seven inches of recline and a width of 19 inches. They will have 13.3-inch in-flight entertainment screens and in-seat power outlets. Passengers will also be treated to premium service and amenities including Sky Priority access at the airport, TUMI kits and Westin Heavenly blankets.

Surprisingly, Delta has opted to keep the 3-3-3 economy configuration, staying away from the ubiquitous 3-4-3 layout that airlines like Emirates and Air France have decided to install on their tight 777s.

These seats should be the same 18.5 inches wide with 31-32 inches of pitch currently found aboard Delta’s version of the A350 aircraft.

Seat map changes

After the reconfiguration, the 777-200 will have 28 seats in business class (a nearly 25% reduction), 48 Premium Select seats (a third more premium economy seats than the previous layout) and 220 economy seats (an addition of just two seats).

Seats for the Detroit-Beijing route onboard the first of the reconfigured 777-200s are now on sale. Tickets start at $1,979 round-trip in economy, $2,497 in Premium Select and $8,105 in Delta One.
