Lowcost airline Jet2 has revealed plans to increase capacity at Newcastle Airport by 6 per cent for summer 2019.
The airline will provide an additional 55,000 seats to a range of destinations including Greece, Turkey, Spain, and Portugal, bringing the total number of seats up to 930,000. The increase will also lead to the addition of a Boeing 737-800 to Jet2’s fleet in the region.
Stephen Heapy, Jet2 chief executive officer, said: “We are putting our biggest ever summer programme on sale from Newcastle Airport, with over 930,000 seats going on sale for summer 2019.
“The addition of a larger Boeing 737-800 aircraft represents another huge investment in our base here, and gives local holidaymakers even more choice and flexibility with our award winning airline and tour operator.”
Jet2 currently operates a fleet of 72 737 and 757 aircraft, with 13 additional 737-800 aircraft on order.
