Virgin Atlantic will join British Airways and LATAM in offering flights to the Brazilian city, with the route becoming the airline’s first ever to South America.
The service will operate daily all year round.

Along with the new São Paulo route, Virgin Atlantic has also announced a new codeshare agreement with Brazil’s largest domestic carrier, GOL.
The codeshare partnership will cover a total of 37 destinations across Brazil, allowing passengers to connect from São Paulo to other cities in the country, including the capital Brasilia and Rio de Janeiro.
The airlines will have matching baggage allowances, and bags will be automatically checked through to the final destination.
Virgin and GOL say they plan to soon expand the codeshare further into South America, including flights to Argentina, Chile and Uruguay. In addition, they plan to launch a frequent flyer programme giving passengers the ability to earn and spend miles across both airlines.
In a statement, Virgin Atlantic COO, Juha Jarvinen, said:
“We’re delighted to announce our codeshare agreement with GOL.
“Brazil is such a rich and diverse country and we’ll be able to offer seamless connections for customers from our brand new London Heathrow to São Paulo service onto 37 destinations across Brazil.”
Eduardo Bernardes Neto, SVP Sales & Distribution at GOL, commented:
“We’re delighted to partner with Virgin Atlantic ahead of its arrival into Brazil next year. GOL offers a leading route network and high quality service and we’re thrilled to be able to connect even more customers thanks to our new partnership with Virgin Atlantic.”
Flights to São Paulo go on sale next Tuesday, 10 September, with the service launching on 29 March 2020.
